This 5-week online course explores the use of the RAIN technique (Recognize, Acknowledge, Investigate and Nurture) to deepen our practice and understanding of Mindfulness and Compassion. Each element of the technique is broken down to clearly delineate its significance in supporting our awareness of 1) “what” we are aware of in any given moment, as well as 2)“how” we are relating to it.
Human beings have an innate tendency to negatively, critically judge our experiences. Therefore we need to learn to purposely cultivate an attitude of kindness and curiosity towards our experiences rather than an attitude of critical judgment. Combining the skills of Mindfulness and Compassion helps us learn to handle everything that arises in our lives with grace, ease and wisdom. Taking this class, you can expect to potentially:
• Cultivate the ability to mindfully respond to events in your life, rather than merely react to them
• Enhance your self-awareness to enable you to recognize what is triggering you in any given situation
• Increase your access to your own inner resources to care for yourself
• Deepen your understanding of what keeps you “stuck” in your life
• Notice when you are stressed and learn to pause and reflect before you act
