None of us has the power to control everything that happens to us in this life. All we can control is how we relate to that which does happen. The powerful tool of Mindfulness allows us to “wake up” and understand the patterns in our lives that we repeat and which may be keeping us “stuck” in a situation without change or growth.

In order to actually change our lives, to create more happiness and peace, we need to learn new approaches, create new patterns as it were, other than our defaults of judgment, criticism and blame.

The practice of Lovingkindness literally creates new neural pathways that shift how we relate to the pain in our lives. We start with the intention to cultivate a more open, friendly, and curious attitude towards ourselves and others.

In the end, the difference between a happy life and a miserable one has as much to do with the lens through which we see and evaluate our experience, as it does the events we experience. In other words it has less to do with what happens to us and more to do with how we react to it.
